EUDEL and EMAKUNDE celebrate in Vitoria-Gasteiz a conference aimed at informing local authorities on the consequences derivedAlmost a hundred representatives of Basque local authorities attended the conference held today in Villa Suso palace.
Within the framework of the future setting-up of the Basque Net of Municipalities for Equality and Opposed to Violence Against Women, today took place the first initiative entitled Consequences Derived from Basque Law on Equality for Local Authorities, organised by EUDEL-Association of Basque Municipalities and Emakunde-Basque Institute of Women.
Karmelo Sáinz de la Maza, president of EUDEL, Izaskun Moyua, General Director of Emakunde and Ander Bergara, counsellor of Emakunde and one of the persons responsible for the development of the Basque Law on Equality, took part in the conference.
With the goal of promoting the compliance of the Law among Basque local authorities, the Law was analysed thoroughly from a local point of view and the conference served as meeting point and exchange-forum of questions and answers. The high participation of Mayors, Councillors and local technical personnel was positively assessed both by EUDEL and Emakunde.
With regard to the setting-up of the Basque Net of Municipalities for Equality and Opposed to Violence Against Women, it is foreseen that local authorities will express their support to a document prepared for November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
The Net, among other objectives, aims at strengthening local authorities work on equality and violence against women and, as the first initiative of that future Net, it was decided to spread the regulations passed recently by the Basque Parliament regarding these matters.
