BalmasedaBalmaseda is located in the Southwest of Bizkaia, in the Encartaciones region and on the bank of Kadagua River, which flows through the municipality. Kolitza, Canto, La Garbea, Terreros and Arbaliza mountains surround it. At North borders with Sopuerta and Artzentales valley, at South with Mena valley (Burgos), at East with Zalla and finally, at West, with Mena and Artzentales valleys.
With regard to its cultural heritage we'd like to mention the beautiful church of San Severino, built in the 15th Century, and the church of San Juan, Gothic building located near Kadagua River. Likewise, we'll visit the convent of Santa Clara and Urrutia and Horcasitas palaces. From there, we'll go to the old bridge, the oldest spot in Balmaseda.
Balmaseda, located in a landscape as beautiful as unknown, the Encartaciones, offers many itineraries and walks through the surrounding mountains.
Balmaseda's patron saint festival is consecrated to San Severino, and hosts the typical Concurso de Pucheras (Pot-cooking contest). Balmaseda's Easter celebrations and medieval market are, also, very famous.
